Entering Philippe Manoury’s studio means recognizing the persistence of an ongoing inquiry into the interaction between musicians and computer-based systems. This film traces several moments of the composer’s exchanges with computer scientists, researchers, and performers, leading to the creation of a string quartet with electronics in which a “real” quartet and a “synthesized” quartet share musical figures to the point of blurring boundaries.
