Images from a work no. 13: ‘Luna Park’ by Georges Aperghis

The film Images of a Work No. 13: ‘Luna Park’ by Georges Aperghis follows the rehearsals and experiments that transform images, gestures and sounds into a unique musical theatre piece.

What if our everyday video surveillance infrastructure started to malfunction? Reversed channels, distorted images and sound, static on the line? What could have been a political project becomes, in Aperghis' hands, a theatrical situation to be explored, a unique arrangement of images, gestures and sounds to be invented: a Luna Park. These are both eminently contemporary concerns and a return to the archetypes of musical theatre that Aperghis and his collaborators have been experimenting with since the 1970s. To fully understand this, we need to follow the stages of the show's production, discover the studio experiments and look back at some of Aperghis' major shows... A documentary film written and directed by Nicolas Donin and Benoît Martin
