The Cultural Outreach Department organizes visits for school groups and/or children’s associations. (IRCAM is not open to individual visitors.)
The visit is led by an IRCAM mediator and covers the history of the institute, its architecture, and its various fields of activity. In small groups, pupils are invited to discover the so-called “anechoic” chamber. The visit then continues with a listening session of works and creations produced at IRCAM. This listening session takes place under an ambisonic dome, allowing participants to experience a new way of listening.
It is also possible to organize a professional meeting with an IRCAM specialist, whose field is chosen with the teacher: artistic creation, scientific research, sound professions. Pupils discover the speaker’s professional background and occupation, and explore notions such as contemporary composition, computer music tools, acoustic spaces, and sound engineering.
